Karen Clemente

Dr. Karen Clemente, Professor of Dance, co-directs the Dance Program in the Theater and Dance Department at Ursinus College. She came to Ursinus from Eastern University where she was Professor of Dance, Chair of the Dance and Theatre Department, and the founding director of the Dance Program.

Dr. Clemente is the Co-director of the Feet First Dance Center in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and she has

performed with the Sybil Dance Company of Philadelphia. She has worked with the Pennsylvania State

Department of Education in the development of dance curriculum guidelines and academic standards for arts education.

Dr. Clemente’s research interests include K-post secondary dance education; kinesthetic learning across the curriculum; dance improvisation and autobiography; and dance and spirituality. She earned both a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Dance Education from Temple University, where she received a University Fellowship for her doctoral studies.

Dr. Clemente was the 2001 Eastern University recipient of the Lindback Award for Excellence in Teaching; the 2009 Outstanding Dance Educator for Higher Education awarded by the National Dance Education Organization; and a 2010 recipient of the Creative Hands and Voices Award by the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement in Philadelphia.
